Entrepreneurship is about creating new solutions that others will value. To accomplish this, innovators must be able to see the old challenges and still be free from the old paradigms that the problems arise from.
As Albert Einstein put it, “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.”
Wonderful things come to us from the past and each generation must decide what to embrace and what to let go of. Let go too much and you’re doomed to repeat old mistakes. But hold on too tightly and you’ll feel like you’re stuck on a hamster wheel… What’s the right balance? How do you know you’ll get the right answer?
I grew up in business. My father had a shop in downtown, D.C. and my brother and I worked there through our teens. After some failed stabs at working for others, I started a business in 1979 and have been a business owner since.
Today’s business is no longer about doing the same nose-to-the-grindstone stuff. Being overwhelmed, looking busy and working 20 hours a day was all in a day’s work.
Now, business owners are about being authentic, being true to their own moral compass, and taking the space to work smart as well as hard. Business success is measured in profits as well as the more subtle social measures of service to humanity and time with family.
You can be a change maker and a factor in so many ways… All expressed through your business. Right now, your business is a powerful way to make a difference in your life and the lives of others.
